Georgian townhouse built in 1843 (first residents were probably British army officers – this part of Port Hope was garrison area known as English town)  • The house was expanded with additions in the 1950’s and in 1970 – not in keeping with the original character • Bought the house in 1994, and embarked on a major renovation, restoration, rebuilding and redecorating project in 1997 which was completed by 2000 • As an interesting historical footnote, Jack Layton and Olivia Chow were here on April 25th, 2004 – attending a reception for Farley Mowat, while in the midst of negotiating the budget deal with Paul Martin

VERANDAH/GARDEN • verandah added in 1997 – same style, columns etc. as original double verandah (now the garden room and master bedroom • wooden clapboard siding added in 1997 and painted with heritage colours to tie various additions of various eras back to the original house • chain functions as a downspout • much of the garden was established about a century ago – including the hydrangea hedges • the garden has been extensively restored since 1994 by Wilf Quigley, with landscape design elements by Amy Quinn and recent work by Scott Beebe and Scott Weiss • the estate includes close to two acres of property, with ravines on three sides, and a cabana, pool and tennis court (not on view) beyond the hydrangea hedge • In ravine behind the house, the retaining wall is built from hundreds of mill stones – which were grinders from the local file factory (the house was owned by the file factory in the first half of the 20th century
